FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Sometimes the salt appears to be cluster up into hard lumps. Once I mix it with water, there seems to be white powder that doesn’t seems to dissolve. Why does this happen and is this salt/saltwater still useable?

The clumping up of the salt happens when the salt are exposed to moisture in the air, resulting in a chemical reaction that forms insoluble compounds, mainly calcium carbonate. As a result, the white powder that doesn't dissolve in water is the remaining calcium carbonate left behind after all the other component are being disssloved.

The salt is still useable eventhough the level of calcium and alkalinity might be lowered that the original formula. Unless the salt has been exposed to moisture for a prolonged period of time, the level of calcium and alkalinity are generally still in the proper range.

2. Do I need to use supplements if I'm only going to set up a Fish Only Aquarium?

Unlike filter feeding invertebrates, algae, plants and bacteria, fishes do not obtain their nutrients from the wate, therefore elemental supplements are generally not required. However, regular testing of pH and alkalinity and adjustment by regular addition of buffering compounds are strictly recommended.

3. What is the most recommended supplement for a reef tank with both soft corals and hard corals? And why?

Marinium All in One is the most recommended and simplest for a basic supplementation scheme because it is actually all of the supplements combined together though concentration of each element would be lesser than each supplement produced specifically.

4. Does Marinium Reef Iron cause unwanted slime algae?

Both macroalgae and unwanted hair algae benefit from higher level of iron. However, high level of nutrients such as phosphate, silicate and nitrate tend to favor the development the later of the two. Therefore, it is not recommended to add iron supplementation if the system is high in these nutrients and/or having problems with hair algae.

5. Why does some of Marinium Liquid Supplements appear to be clear and colorless, does that mean that they are out of date or lacking the elements?

This is because the formulations of many of our Liquid Supplements are kept as simple and as natural as ossible. They are free of color and complex chelating agents that might cause toxicity or imbalance the water chemistry. The appearance is clear and colorless because all the compounds are water-soluble, dissolved completely and is colorless in itself as a solution.
